Considered one of the most important commercial ports of Vietnam, Da Nang is along with Hue the most important city in the central area of the country. City with some commercial importance in the antiquity during the period of Kingdom of Cham, Da Nang is more known in the history of the country for being occupied by the French troops of Napoleon III and for being one of the most important bases that had the American troops during the sad Vietnam War.

Today, Da Nang is an open city and thanks to tourism the city is slowly becoming a modern and less industrial city.
 

What to do in Da Nang

The Dan Nang Cathedral

Built by the French in 1922 and with the characteristic pink color of other Catholic cathedrals in Vietnam, it is the best monument to appreciate the French colonial past in the region and the importance of the city of Da Nang.

Cham Museum

The Cham Museum of Da Nang offers us the opportunity to know the history of the Kingdom of Champa. In the museum you can find different terracotta sculptures, busts and objects found mainly in the My Son Historical Ruins.

Pham Lam Pagoda

Located in the center of the city, the Pham Lam Pagoda or Tinh Hoi Pagoda, is famous for being the main Buddhist temple in the region and for its white statue of a seated Buddha of more than 2 m in height.

The Marble Mountain

Without doubt the main attraction in Da Nang. As such it is a set of 5 mountains that represent the 5 natural elements of Chinese philosophy, the fire (the mountain of fire or Hoa Son), the earth (Tho Son or mountain of earth), the water (mountain of water or Thuy Son) and metal (metal mountain or Kim Son). Of all these, the visit would really include the mountain of water or Thuy Son. Thuy Son is the largest mountain all and the highest. Throughout its complex you can visit different pagodas and caves located in different areas of the mountain. To visit the complex, it is ideal to see the Linh Ung Pagoda and the Xa Loi Tower first and visit the Linh Nham cave, Huyen Khong cave and the Hoa Nghiem cave.

The Pass of the Clouds

The Pass of the Clouds or the Port of Hai Van is another attraction that offers us the surroundings of Da Nang. Located 500 m above sea level, the Paso de las Nubes is called the original road and the mountain pass through which it crosses. In the visit aside to enjoy the incredible views we can also know all the defensive rde that was during the Vietnam War, because Da Nang was a strategic point for the Americans and forces of the Army of South Vietnam.

Discover the beaches of Da Nang

Da Nang is also known for having some of the best beaches in Vietnam. Along the coast we can find many of them that include Non Nuoc and My Khee Beach (famous for being one of the most famous surf spots in the country).

Visit the Ling Ung Pagoda

Located in the Son Tra Peninsula, we can visit the Ling Ung Pagoda at the top of Monkey Mountain, which was built a few years ago after a typhoon struck the Dan Nang coast in 2008. In the complex it stands out as special way the Buddha statue with more than 60 m in height.

Interesting neighborhoods in Da Nang

My Khe-My Khe is located on a long sandy beach, with many high-rise hotels and restaurants that are highly recommended, such as the Thung Phi barbecue, splashing its territory.

Bach Dang is located on the west bank of the Han River and is the authentic center of Da Nang. It houses the Cham Sculpture Museum, as well as a multitude of hotels, both luxury and affordable.

Ngu Hanh Son is the southernmost district of Da Nang, home to the Marble Mountains and famous resorts, including Centara Sandy Beach.
 

Climate in Da Nang

In Da Nang, the wet season is warm and overcast, the dry season is hot and mostly cloudy, and it is oppressive year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 67°F to 93°F and is rarely below 62°F or above 98°F.

The best time of year to visit Da Nang for warm-weather activities is from late December to late March.
